A series of semi-squishy silicone shapes that glow pleasantly in different colors that change according to their orientation and proximity to each other intended as a visualization of action at a distance.
We conceived of Blocky Talkies as a toy that capitalizes on children’s fascination with action at a distance. The goal was to imbue a series of abstract shapes with distinct personalities that could interact with each other—in as uncomplicated a manner as possible. Ditching accelerometers and XBees in favor of tilt switches and infrared remote protocols, we built a toy that kids seem to enjoy and with which we can’t stop playing.
